Setting up Loads

To set up a load, you use the Load Maintenance window, which is accessed by pressing the Load Maintenance function key on the Load Consolidation screen.  You set up loads to establish shipping parameters for deliveries that occur on a regularly scheduled or one-time basis.  Shipping parameters help you determine which order shipments can be assigned to a load.  These parameters include:

·     Carrier

·     Volume capacity

·     Weight capacity

·     Ship via

·     Route

·     Dock number

For each load, you must define a load number and enter a description that uniquely identifies the load.  You must also determine if the load will be a one-time load or re-used for many ship dates.  Once the load is defined, it is active, and order shipments with the same shipping parameters can be assigned to it.

Regularly Scheduled and One-Time Loads

Load planning allows you to define loads used to ship orders on a regularly scheduled or one-time basis.  This flexibility allows you to set up loads based on pre-determined, regular vehicle schedules or on the destinations of order shipments that are received for a particular day.

For instance, if you have a truck that goes to Destination A every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, you can set up a load for that destination and ship via capacity and re-use the load for each ship date on an ongoing basis.  If, on the other hand, you schedule order shipments daily based on their destinations, you can define a load for each delivery and use each load definition only once.

You define a one-time load during load setup by setting the one-time load flag on the Load Maintenance window.  If a load is designated as a one-time load, you must enter a scheduled ship date.  If a one-time load is assigned to a sales order line, the promised ship date must be the same as the load's scheduled ship date.

Deactivating and Reactivating Loads

The Load Planning function allows you to deactivate and reactivate load definitions on the Load Master file.  To deactivate or reactivate a load, you use the Load Maintenance Function Select and Load Maintenance Windows, which are accessed by pressing the Load Maintenance function key on the Load Consolidation screen.

On the Load Maintenance Function Select Window, enter the load number and press the Deactivate or Reactivate function key.  The Load Maintenance Window will then appear.  Review the information defined for the load and then press Enter to deactivate or reactivate the load.
