Marketing Displays International (MDI), a MAC-PAC user since 1993, is the latest company making the move to SalesTaxII for sales and use tax calculations with MAC-PAC XE. SalesTaxII is provided by TDCI solution partner Independent Systems, a unit of Avalara, a leading provider of web-hosted sales tax management services.

“The reason we're moving to SalesTaxII is simple – it does everything we need at much less cost than our previous service,” said Jim Ward, MDI Senior Systems Analyst. “And the integration with MAC-PAC XE quotes, orders, and invoices has been very straight-forward.”

SalesTaxII provides iSeries (AS/400) database, lookup and calculation capabilities for sales and use tax rates for all 50 states, U.S. Territories and Possessions, and Canada. The database contains both current and previous state, county, city, transit, and any other required rates which make up total sales and use tax. Monthly database updates are delivered via internet download, and the calculation software links easily with MAC-PAC XE order entry and/or invoicing.

SalesTaxII provides lookup and calculations based on date effective sales and use tax rates, transit tax rates, or any other 'sales tax' levied by a municipality, including special factors such as maximum rates or amounts, indications as to where sales and use tax is to be reported, indications as to whether tax is to be calculated at origin or destination, etc. Companies can order only the states they need, thereby reducing cost.

SalesTaxII stores calculated tax, taxable, and non-taxable amounts for later reporting. Amounts can be printed for transfer to various returns, or returns can be generated on demand using Independent Systems' LaserBridge+.
