Core Selling and Quoting Capabilities

BuyDesign provides the full range of core capabilities you need to guide your channel partners and/or sales people from product selection, through configuration, pricing, quoting, proposal, ordering, and status inquiry.

  • Comprehensive product catalog provides all the information users need in order to identify, visualize, and order both configurable and standard products.

Stored or linked contents for each of your products can include: descriptive information, images, related documents, inventory/manufacturing information (e.g. qty on hand and lead time), pricing, and more. You can easily control the products to which each user has access. The catalog can be organized into multi-level categories with flexible search capabilities. Dealers and distributors can even add their own products and services, as well as local pricing factors.
  • Guided product selection enabled by the BuyDesign Configurator goes beyond standard catalog search capabilities to help users identify and select the products that best fit their needs by providing attribute/requirement questions, results filtering, and match ranking capabilities.
  • Product configuration enabled by the BuyDesign Configurator helps users understand and select available features, options, and dimensions while ensuring they define a valid product.
  • Product visualization helps users visually confirm their product, feature, and option selections.
    • Static images can be automatically selected and displayed from the catalog based on the product and various product attributes
    • Optional dynamically generated models enabled by BuyDesign Flex2D and BuyDesign Flex3D go beyond static images to provide configuration-specific views that can be rotated, etc.
  • Quoting and ordering provides all of the capabilities users need to quickly and accurately price, quote, and order both configured and standard products, including dealer-specific products and services.
    • Functions such as quote/order create, search, copy/modify, convert, etc. make the process fast and easy
    • Template quote packages provide support for such things as standard orders, walk-up customers, etc.
    • Sophisticated price calculations create configuration-specific list price, dealer cost, and final selling price.
      • Dealer cost can be calculated from standard, exclusive, and/or blended price lists with discount or multiplier factors.
      • Dealers or sales people can then apply default or over-ride markup or margin factors to create the quoted customer selling price.
    • A flexible pricing worksheet enables dealers or sales people to perform authorized overrides to standard factors to develop final quote.
    • Multi-tasking capabilities enable simultaneous development of multiple quotes/orders with support for interruption/return, information lookup, etc.
    • Flexible quote/order reporting and extracts support sales analysis.

  • Bid document generation helps sales people develop customized proposals that win business. Using the product and pricing information developed in the quote worksheet, elements from the product catalog, and simple point & click formatting options, documents can include:
    • Various levels of detail on pricing, descriptions, comments, etc.
    • Product images
    • Sorted line item sequence (e.g. by line item label)
    • Dealer logo, contact information, marketing messages, etc.
Once created, PDF bid documents can be instantly printed, e-mailed, faxed, or saved.

  • Status and history inquiry allows sales people and customer service personnel to instantly view the current status and appropriate details of orders, shipments, and invoices.
  • Collaboration capabilities support fast, effective communication among all levels of the sales channel, from customer or "specifier" to dealer, distributor, and you as the manufacturer. Export/import and Internet-based communication capabilities for RFQs, RFOs, and orders enable your multi-level sales channel to work closely together to win more business. For instance, you or your dealers can import RFQs from BuyDesign interest capture and requirements capture applications such as BuyDesign Spec-In and BuyDesign Build-Your-Own.
Multiple Sales Process Models

All of the BuyDesign core capabilities can be implemented within any of several different sales process models.

  • High volume - For environments where professional sales people (e.g. dealer or company sales reps) order a high volume of products and speed of quoting/ordering is critical, a rapid-entry process is provided where common product attributes are identified, then individual items are entered, further configured as needed, priced, quoted, and ordered. Mass change capabilities are also provided.
  • High complexity - For environments where professional sales people work with customers to order relatively fewer, typically higher value products, a select, configure, price, quote, and order process flow is provided. BuyDesign's guided selling and configuration tools can be particularly valuable in this model.
  • Blended - Because of BuyDesign's highly flexible architecture, core capabilities can be organized to support just about any flow that is appropriate for your products and sales process.
Multiple Deployment Models

You can deploy BuyDesign Channel Sales online as an external or internal website; you can distribute it via download or CD to your dealers, distributors, and sales people; or you can implement a combination of both. In any case, you need only manage one system and data repository while being confident your information will always be up-to-date. Learn more about BuyDesign deployment models.
