Define Departments

Departments are used to group workcenters within Manufacturing Engineering.  They are defined on the Department Validation File (ME140M), which is maintained through the Department Maintenance option on the ME menu.  The same department codes are used by all companies and plants within MAC-PAC.

1.   Determine the three-digit code to be used for each department and its descriptive name.

2.   Define each department:

a.  Select the Department Maintenance menu option.

b.   Type the number of the department to be added.

c.   Enter the name of the department.

3.   Print a copy of the Department Validation File, ME140M to see if the department codes and names have been entered correctly.

4.   As needed, repeat step 2 to change the department name, add a new department, or delete a department.

Note:    Before deleting a department, you must delete or reassign all workcenters assigned to the department.  The Department Composition Inquiry conversation within Manufacturing Engineering lists which workcenters are assigned to a department.  Workcenters are deleted and assigned to departments in the Workcenter Maintenance conversation within Manufacturing Engineering.
