Specific Descriptions and Literals to be Translated

Once your system is installed and running correctly in the base language, you need to translate the documents you wish to print in a secondary language.  You must translate each document into each of the secondary languages you wish to use.  There are several areas necessary for translation.  They include:  part description data for all parts used, document literals for each document to be printed, and reference file descriptions for all necessary categories. 

Part Descriptions

Each part in MAC-PAC has both a part number and a description.  The part number is held on the Part Master File (DE100M) in the system's base language and is the same in all languages on the system.  The part description, however, can be translated.  This translation is done by plant.  If the same part exists in more than one plant, you must translate it in every plant to be used by these documents.

Literals

Literals are expressions such as "Part Number" that identify fields on the document.  One translation should be entered for each secondary language needed.  Literals are stored on the Literal Translation File (CF270M) in both the base language and secondary languages.  This file must be initialized before adding each new secondary language using the Literal Translation Maintenance Program (CF270E) found on the MAC-PAC Processing Menu.  This will submit a batch job run by the New Language Initialization program (CF040E) to initialize the file.

Reference File Descriptions

Many descriptions such as unit of measure, are defined by the user on the reference file.  One translation should be entered for each secondary language required.

Numeric data such as quantities, sales order numbers, and purchase order numbers do not need to be translated.
