Serial Number Example: Shipment
Serial Number Example: Shipment
Create a 9 digit serial number with the first two positions alphanumeric, the next four numeric, and the last three alphanumeric. It will look like this: AANNNNAAA.
The first two positions will always be SN (for serial number), the next four positions will be an incremented number, the last three positions will be the warehouse where this part is typically stored. Set up Reference File category G78 for this type of serial number. See the illustration below.

Your customer, World Cereal Corporation (WORLD), needs a cereal shipment. They want Corn Crunch and Sugar Bombers, both serial controlled parts. Ship two truckloads of cereal to WORLD. One truck contains Corn Crunch and the other Sugar Bombers. There are 1000 boxes of cereal in each truckload. Each box must have a unique serial number. Corn Crunch is stored in warehouse CRN and Sugar Bombers in warehouse BOM.
Two shipments, each from a different warehouse, going to the World Cereal Corporation.
The Shipping and Billing conversation is shown below. Enter this conversation to ship WORLD their cereal. The Serial Number Assignment Window automatically appears when you ship serial controlled parts. Use the generation feature in the Serial Number Assignment Window to generate all serial numbers. Enter the Begin Serial Number (SN0001CRN) and the Quantity to Generate (1000). See the figure below.

Once you enter these values press Enter, the Serial Number Assignment program will generate the requested numbers. The generated serial numbers are shown in the following figure.

The serial numbers created from this window would range between SN0001CRN and SN1000CRN. Likewise, the Sugar Bombers' serial numbers will be SN0001BOM through SN1000BOM once generated.
