Multiple Units of Measure

Unit of measure is used to express quantity.  The system allows a part to have up to four units of measure associated with it.  These units of measure are:

·      Stockkeeping Unit (SKU).  Unit of measure used for stocking a part.

·      Purchasing Unit (PU).  Unit of measure in which purchase orders are written.

·      Selling Unit (SU).  Unit of measure in which customers will normally order an part.

·      Pricing Unit (PRU).  Unit of measure in which customer order line parts will be priced.

These units of measure are defined on the Part Master and Warehouse Balance files for each part.  For example, a part might be set up as follows:

Stockkeeping Unit

Each (EA)

Purchasing Unit

Case (CS)

Selling Unit

Case (CS)

Pricing Unit

Dozen (DZ) (Warehouse Balance file)

The order unit is the unit of measure used in the Sales Order Line file, and in which the customer actually orders the part.  It need not equal the selling unit of measure; however, it must equal one of the four defined units of measure associated with that part.

The system will not accept an order unit of measure change unless it is equal to one of the four units of measure associated with the part.  If it is not equal, the field will be highlighted as an error condition and the operator must enter a valid unit of measure.  On the multi-line entry screen, if the operator leaves the order unit of measure blank, it will default to the selling unit of measure.

For sales orders, the Sales Order Line file maintains quantity and amount fields in order and pricing units.  For quote orders, the Quote Order Line file maintains these units.  The Warehouse Balance file maintains these fields in stockkeeping units.  Information on order entry screens is in order and pricing units.  The system automatically updates files in the appropriate unit of measure.

Considerations

Order lines contain conversion factors for changing stockkeeping units to order units.  For example, suppose the Part Master and Warehouse Balance file records for an ordered part contain the following data:

Description:  Widget

Stockkeeping Unit of Measure (SKU)

Each (EA)

Selling Unit of Measure (SU)

Box "BX"

Selling Factors (SKU/SU)

4/1 (4 "EA" per "BX")

Purchasing Unit of Measure (PU)

Case "CS"

Purchasing Factors (SKU/PU)

12/1 (12 "EA" per "CS")

If the order quantity is expressed in boxes, the stockkeeping units per order unit is 4.  Alternately, if the order quantity is in cases, stockkeeping units per order unit is 12.
