Multiple Item Types

Part types are used to classify and define a part's stockkeeping, replenishment, and costing characteristics.  In general, parts are classified as stock, nonstandard, non-stocked, and reference (non-inventory).  Stock part types are further classified as purchased, manufactured, raw material, build-through, by-product, and transfer.

Part types affect line processing in all Order Processing conversations.

All part types except planning and non-stocked parts may be sold, provided that the part's Warehouse Balance file record exists at the sourcing company/warehouse, and that the pricing data has been established.

Operators may override the description and cost data for non-standard parts.

Reference parts identify non-inventory parts such as handling charges, processing charges, etc., and may appear on order lines.  Availability checking is not performed for reference parts.

Considerations

The default cost data for nonstandard, non-stocked, and reference parts is always obtained from the Warehouse Balance file regardless of the sourcing company/warehouse.

Nonstandard parts are always costed using the moving average method, regardless of the costing option of the sourcing company/warehouse.
