Multiple Stock Locations

Multiple stock locations allow warehouse management to define how the warehouse is organized for stockkeeping purposes.  The Order Processing application requires the stock location to be entered when a line item is sourced from a warehouse and the part type does not indicate a reference part.

The stock location is entered in both billing conversations.  It defines the area in the warehouse from which inventory was picked.

The stock location should be noted on the picker when the goods are picked so that inventory is released from the proper stock location and inventory accuracy is maintained.

Considerations

A stock location can be entered on the header screen if all inventory for a sales order has been picked from the same location.  This would normally imply that a staging area for order picking has been set up, and that separate intra-warehouse transfer transactions have been processed to "move" the inventory from the stocking location to the staging area.

If a stock location is not entered for a shipped line, the header level stock location is used to relieve inventory.  If stock location was not entered in the header, the default stock location on the Warehouse Balance file is used.
