Multiple Balance Types

 

Multiple balance types allow inventory to be separated into different classifications.  The Order Processing application requires a balance type to be entered for each line shipped from a warehouse.

The balance types are defined during system installation.  For each balance type defined, the user can specify whether the on-hand inventory balance should be considered available for distribution.

Based on the balance type entered in the billing conversations, the proper on-hand quantity field is updated on the Warehouse Balance and Location/Lot files.

Considerations

In situations where shipments are usually made from the same balance type, a default balance type can be used. If a balance type is not entered, inventory is relieved using the first balance type available for distribution.

Unless the sales order is to be satisfied using manufacturing resources, only balance types available for distribution are used in availability checking to determine total on-hand quantity.
