Job Status Codes

Three job status codes are provided with the system:

O = Open

C = Closed

Z = Costing closed

Additional codes can be defined on Reference File category D48.

When a job is defined, the job status is set to O.  The job remains open until you manually change the status to C for closed.  A job's status is changed through the Job Setup and Maintenance conversation within Job Control.  MAC-PAC does not perform any validation before allowing you to change the status to C.  However, it tracks the date on which the change was made.  No new orders can be added for a job with status of C.

Once a job is manufactured and all costing for it is complete, you can change the status to Z.  MAC-PAC will not allow you to change the status to Z if there are any open sales orders, manufacturing orders, purchase orders, or inventory balances for the job.  No transactions can be performed for a job with status of Z.  The job is inactive and becomes a candidate for physical deletion from the Job Master File.

You define the amount of time a job number should remain in the system after its status has been changed to Z.  The retention period can be specified in days, months, or years.  The retention period is established by the frequency with which you run the Job Purge Program and the horizon date you use when purging that file.
